Karachi police inquiry recommends action against Korangi SSP

An inquiry into a viral incident in Karachi’s Defence Phase 6 has recommended departmental action against Korangi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Fida Hussain Janwari for administrative negligence. The investigation followed social media footage of an August 21 confrontation involving a parking dispute between two families at an apartment building.

The report found that police personnel present at the scene aided the relatives of the SSP during the clash. Specific findings include officers facilitating one side to the detriment of the other, making arrests without sufficient evidence, and a man in plain clothes smashing a CCTV camera with a weapon provided by a uniformed officer.

In addition to the SSP, the inquiry recommends criminal or departmental cases against several individuals, including the SSP’s mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and brother-in-law. It also calls for the suspension and proceedings against several police officials, including former Darakhshan SHO Rashid Ali and mobile officer Aftab Mangi. Furthermore, the inquiry recommended that the First Information Report (FIR) previously registered against the affected siblings, Ali Ahsan and Noor-ul-Ain, be reclassified as B-class, indicating the original complaint was found to be unsubstantiated.
