Karachi Police investigate viral videos of weapon-based harassment

Police in Karachi are investigating viral videos that appear to show youths in a car harassing and intimidating pedestrians, including young women, with weapons in the Defence (DHA) area.

Preliminary investigations suggest the footage may have been created using artificial intelligence. While the videos caused significant concern, the social media accounts that posted them were deleted shortly after the content went viral. Some posts indicated the content was AI-generated and intended for entertainment purposes.

Authorities are working to verify the authenticity of the footage and determine if the weapons shown are real or fake. The South Zone Police, under instructions from the DIG South, are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby locations, including a cafe seen in the videos, to identify the individuals involved. Law enforcement has also contacted the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to trace the technical details of the deleted accounts and is seeking statements from potential witnesses, such as local vendors.
