Karachi reports rise in H1N1 influenza cases

Medical professionals in Karachi are reporting a significant surge in influenza cases, including the H1N1 variant. Major healthcare facilities, such as Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and Civil Hospital, have seen daily patient numbers nearly double due to changing weather patterns and dropping nighttime temperatures.

At Aga Khan University Hospital, approximately 400 influenza cases have been reported this year. Experts note that the H1N1 strain, which gained prominence as swine flu in 2009, continues to circulate. While not all patients undergo laboratory testing, doctors emphasize that severe cases can lead to complications such as pneumonia or fluid in the lungs.

Health experts advise that children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals are at the highest risk. To mitigate the spread, medical professionals recommend wearing masks in crowded areas, frequent handwashing, maintaining social distance, and seeking annual influenza vaccinations. Dietary recommendations include consuming soups and juicy fruits to support health during the outbreak.
