Karachi water supply recovers after outage as new pipeline deal is signed

The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has reported the restoration of water supply following a 17-hour power outage at the Dhabeji Pumping Station. The outage, caused by a cable fault linked to a fire in nearby bushes, resulted in a shortage of approximately 198 million gallons of water across the metropolis. K-Electric has restored electricity to most affected feeders, allowing eight of the ten impacted pumps to become operational.

In a separate infrastructure development, the KWSC and Frontier Works Organization (FWO) have signed an agreement for a Rs 14.2 billion dedicated water pipeline project. The pipeline will run from Dumlotee to supply an additional 10 million gallons of water per day to the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and Clifton areas. Construction is scheduled to begin next week, with a target completion time of one year. The project aims to reduce reliance on costly private water tankers and strengthen the city’s overall water reliability.
