Karadeniz Technical University reports growth in research and student enrollment

Karadeniz Technical University (KTÜ) Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah Çuvalcı shared the institution's latest performance data during an annual evaluation meeting. The university currently hosts approximately 30,600 students, including over 2,200 international students. With new enrollments, the total number is expected to approach 31,000.

In terms of academic performance, KTÜ has seen a 70% increase in Q1 category academic articles. The university ranks eighth in Turkey for TÜBİTAK 1001 projects, third in industry-collaborative publication performance, and second in patent registrations. Çuvalcı noted that while the university is part of the Research University league, it faces intense competition for funding and resources compared to other institutions.

Technological advancements include the implementation of artificial intelligence in Farabi Hospital's intensive care units and the use of drones by the newly established Disaster Research Institute to monitor underground movements and prevent landslides. Additionally, the university is undergoing a digital transformation to reduce paper usage through locally developed software.
