Karaelmas Express launches 2026 tourist season in Zonguldak

The Karaelmas Express, a tourist train designed to promote the cultural and industrial heritage of the Western Black Sea region, has commenced its 2026 season. The first group of 101 passengers arrived at the Zonguldak Train Station, where they were greeted by the Miner's Choir, a unique ensemble composed entirely of underground mine workers performing in traditional mining gear.

Coordinated by the Ministry of Industry and Technology in collaboration with the Western Black Sea Development Agency (BAKKA), the Zonguldak Governor's Office, and the Zonguldak Special Provincial Administration, the initiative aims to diversify tourism in the TR81 region. Following the arrival, passengers participated in a tour of local landmarks, including the Gökgöl Cave, the Mining Museum, and the historic Fener district.

BAKKA General Secretary Mehmet Çetinkaya noted that the project saw an 87 percent occupancy rate during its 2025 operations. For the current season, the program will consist of four trips scheduled at two-week intervals, focusing on showcasing the region's natural autumn scenery and mining culture to establish Zonguldak as a permanent destination for travel agencies.
