Karahayıt natural gas project targets December 2026 completion

Officials in Denizli have announced a target date of December 30, 2026, to begin natural gas supply to the Karahayıt district. During a high-level evaluation meeting attended by Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Nadir Alpaslan and Denizli Governor Yavuz Selim Köşger, it was reported that 80 percent of the pipeline manufacturing for the project is already complete.

The remaining 20 percent of the pipeline work, covering nine neighborhoods, is expected to be finished within one month. To facilitate gas supply, an LNG facility is being planned; the tender process for this facility is underway, though archaeological drilling led by Prof. Dr. Celal Şimşek is required because the proposed site is located within a protected heritage area.

In addition to energy infrastructure, the meeting addressed the declining flow rates of thermal water resources in the Pamukkale region. Authorities plan to investigate the impacts of drought, agricultural irrigation, and hotel usage. Governor Köşger has also instructed the State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) to identify and report illegal drilling activities to combat the threat to water reserves.
