Karaman, Turkey Celebrates 530‑Year‑Old Circumcision Festival for 21 Boys

The Konya Vakıflar Regional Directorate organized a traditional circumcision ceremony in Karaman, fulfilling a charitable condition set out in Sultan II Bayezid’s 530‑year‑old endowment. Twenty‑one boys and their families gathered at the Aktekke Mosque, where a Qur’an recital and prayers were held.

A convoy of classic cars, a TOGG electric vehicle and horse‑drawn carriages escorted the participants through the city centre to the Karaman Police Station. The programme featured a clown performance, games and workshops for the children.

Speakers, including regional director Yılmaz Kılınç, Governor Hayrettin Çiçek and Police Chief Mehmet Turhan, highlighted the event’s role in preserving social solidarity and heritage. As Kılınç said, “The circumcision of children as stipulated in the foundation’s charter is a unique charitable duty that sustains centuries‑old community values.”

At the conclusion, each boy received gifts of gold gram‑coins and bicycles, presented by the governor and police chief.
