Karan Battalion marks 85th anniversary of formation

A traditional gathering was held in Gornja Dragotinja, in the town of Karan, to mark the 85th anniversary of the formation of the Karan Battalion. Organized by the Prijedor City Committee of SUBNOR, the event served as an occasion to commemorate the National Liberation War and honor local fighters.

Mišo Rodić, president of the Prijedor City Committee of SUBNOR, noted that organized resistance against occupying forces began in the Karan area in September 1941. The Karan company, along with two others, eventually formed the Second Krajina National Liberation Detachment, which was later named after its first commander, Dr. Mladen Stojanović, following his death. The commemoration also highlighted the Kozara offensive and the historical significance of local heroes such as Žarko Zgonjanin and Dr. Mladen Stojanović.
