Karan Johar reflects on friendships that shaped his life on Friendship Day

Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar used Friendship Day to post a long Instagram note about the friends who have influenced his life. He recalled his childhood loneliness and described his first friend, Parsee schoolmate Farzana Muncherjee, who helped him break out of isolation.

He also recounted meeting Apoorva Mehta in sixth grade after a clerical error placed him in a new class. Mehta, now CEO of Dharma Productions, became a close personal and professional confidant. Johar said these relationships have guided his personal growth and career decisions, noting that his friends feel like family. He also mentioned a recent 15‑day ICU stay of his mother, underscoring the personal challenges he has faced.
