Karapapas disputes revenue distribution logic in Super League meeting
During a Super League working group teleconference regarding the central management and redistribution of television rights revenue, Olympiacos Vice President Kostas Karapapas challenged Super League President Giannis Alafouzos over the importance of club commerciality.
Alafouzos suggested that commerciality should not be a primary criterion for revenue redistribution, aiming to support smaller clubs. Karapapas countered this by citing SKAI TV's specific deals, noting that the channel provided 20 million euros to Panathinaikos while providing only 2 million to Iraklis. Karapapas argued that the size of a club's fanbase and its subsequent television viewership must be considered when discussing revenue, as these fans represent the customers for the broadcasters investing in the rights.
This discussion follows a previous agreement between the owners of Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, AEK, and PAOK to commission a study by Deloitte. The study will examine the possibility of joint television rights management to increase overall revenue for Greek football.
