Karapınar agricultural officials monitor spring crop development and harvest
Agricultural officials and experts in Karapınar, Konya, have conducted field inspections to assess the development of spring crops, including corn, sugar beet, sunflower, potato, alfalfa, and carrot. Durmuş Üner, President of the Karapınar Chamber of Agriculture, noted that while harvesting for sunflower, potato, and seed alfalfa has begun on a limited scale, activity is expected to intensify soon.
Üner highlighted that many local farmers are following crop rotation practices, leading to an increase in sunflower cultivation areas. However, he expressed concerns regarding recent reductions in customs duties, which he stated have negatively impacted producers. He called on both public institutions and private companies to implement purchasing policies that prevent farmers from suffering financial losses during the harvest period.
Prof. Dr. Süleyman Soylu, a technical advisor for the Chamber, reported that there are currently no major issues regarding crop development in the Karapınar Plain. He provided guidance to producers via live broadcasts regarding irrigation and disease prevention during this critical stage.
