Karateka film about Sandra Sánchez to premiere in San Sebastián
The trailer for ‘Karateka’, a new film directed by Aritz Moreno, has been released ahead of its world premiere at the San Sebastián International Film Festival on September 21. The film is based on the life of Spanish karateka Sandra Sánchez, portraying her journey from her beginnings in Talavera de la Reina to winning Olympic gold in Tokyo at the age of 39.
Andrea Ros stars as Sandra Sánchez, while Patrick Criado plays her partner and coach, Jesús del Moral. The production, a collaboration involving Atresmedia Cine, Sr. & Sra., and others, was filmed across Spain and Japan, including locations in Madrid, Tottori, and Fujinomiya. The story focuses on themes of perseverance, love, and overcoming professional conventions in a sport often dominated by younger competitors.
Following its festival debut, the film is scheduled for a theatrical release on October 30, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
