Karatsu Minami High School students create recycled plastic combs
Students from the Nijinomatsubara Project Team at Karatsu Minami High School have completed the design and production of ‘Re comb’, a hair comb made from recycled plastic bottle caps.
Working in collaboration with the NPO Karatsu Farm & Food, the students used injection molding to transform waste plastic into products featuring pine-inspired relief designs. The project aims to promote circular economy principles and environmental awareness related to the conservation of the Nijinomatsubara pine grove.
The production process involved technical collaboration with mold manufacturer MEISEI to adapt the design for injection molding constraints. Each comb is unique due to the varying color blends of the melted plastic. The combs include a hole to allow them to be used as keychains.
