Karditsa Old Electric Plant to become modern cultural center

The Old Electric Plant in Karditsa is being transformed into a modern cultural center. As the city's only remaining example of industrial architecture, the building is undergoing a major restoration project.

To mark International Industrial Heritage Day, the City Museum and the Directorate of Technical Works of the Karditsa Regional Unit organized a guided tour of the site. The event allowed citizens to learn about the building's history and the ongoing renovation works. Fenia Lekka, head of the City Museum, noted that the building's social history provides a way to study the city's evolution.

The restoration involves two main buildings, while a third, historically insignificant structure has been demolished. The project, which is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027, will include the creation of an event hall with a capacity for 160 people. The site is located opposite the New Market and the Church of Saint George.
