Kareem Simon found guilty of murdering Dennis Edwards
A jury has found 45-year-old Kareem Simon of Greenbay guilty of murdering 66-year-old Dennis Edwards. The conviction follows a fatal stabbing that occurred on Lower All Saints Road in St. John’s on August 21, 2023.
During the trial, the jury rejected Simon’s claim of self-defense. While Simon had previously told investigators that Edwards attacked him first, surveillance footage presented as evidence showed Simon initiating the physical confrontation. The recording captured an argument involving expletives before Simon swung at Edwards, causing him to drop a food container and a cellphone. Although Edwards was seen placing his hand in Simon’s face, the footage demonstrated that Simon initiated the fight and refused to back down.
Edwards, a resident of Bolans, sustained fatal stab wounds to his upper body. The court heard that while Simon saw Edwards regularly in the capital, the two men had never spoken prior to the incident. Simon is scheduled to be sentenced on November 19 before Justice John Spencer.
