Karel Kutlvašr: Anniversary of the Prague Uprising commander's death
The anniversary of the death of General Karel Kutlvašr, a key figure in the Prague Uprising of May 1945, is observed on October 2. Kutlvašr, who commanded the defense of Prague during the final days of World War II, faced significant persecution by the subsequent communist regime.
Following the war, the regime demoted him to the rank of private and sentenced him to life imprisonment. After receiving amnesty, he lived his final months working as a night watchman at the Nusle Brewery. He passed away on October 2, 1961, during a medical examination at Motol Hospital.
