Karen Bass calls for permanent citizenship path for Salvadoran TPS holders

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has called for a permanent path to citizenship for Salvadoran residents currently under Temporary Protected Status (TPS). In a social media post, Bass urged Congress to act, arguing that the program serves as a lifeline for families and that ending it would put thousands of residents at risk.

Bass noted that Los Angeles is home to a large Salvadoran community that has enriched the city through various organizations and unions. She emphasized that these individuals have been contributing to the city and the country for decades. The Department of Homeland Security has stated that an announcement regarding TPS for El Salvador will be made at an appropriate time, noting that current protections remain in place.
