Karen Bass declines House hearing on LA homelessness fund probe

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has declined to testify before a House subcommittee investigating alleged waste, fraud, and abuse at the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA). The House Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency, led by Representative Tim Burchett, requested her appearance to probe the management of over $1 billion in federal funds distributed to LAHSA since 2021.

Bass cited scheduling conflicts as the reason for her absence. She also raised concerns regarding the financial burden of complying with the committee's extensive document requests, stating that the need for legal counsel to process the requests would result in further wasted taxpayer money.

A spokesperson for Representative Burchett indicated that a congressional subpoena remains a possibility if the investigation does not proceed as planned.
