Karim Aïnouz releases satirical film ‘Rosebush Pruning’

Brazilian director Karim Aïnouz is releasing his second English-language film, ‘Rosebush Pruning’, which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival. The film is a satire centered on an ultra-wealthy, isolated family living in a mansion in the mountains of Catalonia, Spain.

The story follows four siblings—Ed, Jack, Anna, and Robert—and their blind patriarch. The family dynamic is described by Aïnouz as ‘fractured’ rather than merely dysfunctional, featuring characters who are ‘totally broken’ due to their privileged and isolated upbringing. The plot intensifies when Jack begins dating Martha, a common young woman, which disrupts the family's fragile order.

The film features an international cast including Callum Turner, Elle Fanning, Riley Keough, Jamie Bell, Lukas Gage, Tracy Letts, and Pamela Anderson. The screenplay was written by Efthimis Filippou, a frequent collaborator of Yorgos Lanthimos.
