Rio Ferdinand urges Manchester United to sign Karim Benzema

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has urged the club to sign free agent Karim Benzema to bolster their attacking options. Benzema, 38, became a free agent following the mutual termination of his contract with Al-Hilal in August 2026.

Ferdinand suggests that Benzema could provide essential experience and act as a focal point in attack, particularly to support Benjamin Sesko, who has faced recent fitness issues. Ferdinand noted that while Sesko is a talented striker, the team lacks a consistent presence in the box when he is unavailable.

Despite the suggestion, transfer analysts describe a move to Old Trafford as unlikely. While Benzema would not require a transfer fee, there has been no reported contact between the player's representatives and Manchester United's recruitment department. Benzema is currently weighing several options, including potential moves to the MLS or Saudi Arabia, or retirement.
