Karim Benzema's return to Lyon blocked by Saudi Arabia ties

Karim Benzema’s potential return to his former club, Olympique Lyonnais, was hindered by existing commitments to Saudi Arabia during the recent transfer window. According to his former agent, Karim Djaziri, the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner had long considered returning to his home city and formative club.

Despite leaving Al-Hilal, Benzema remains tied to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through a financial or ambassadorial engagement that lasts until 2030. This connection prevented negotiations with Olympique Lyonnais from reaching a conclusion, even though the club's sporting director had expressed interest in the striker.
