Karim El Baqqali remains in custody for killing two Spanish officers

A court in Barbate, Cádiz, has ordered the extension of provisional detention for Karim El Baqqali, the pilot of a narco-speedboat investigated for the deaths of two Civil Guard officers.

The incident occurred on February 9, 2024, when El Baqqali allegedly rammed a Civil Guard vessel, injuring two other officers. The prosecution has charged El Baqqali with two counts of murder for the deaths of Miguel Ángel González and David Pérez Carracedo, along with four counts of attempted murder, aggravated assault, and property damage.

The prosecutor is seeking more than two million euros in compensation for the families of the deceased officers. While the prosecution is considering a mitigating circumstance due to El Baqqali’s voluntary surrender in September 2024, the case will proceed to a jury trial at the Provincial Court of Cádiz.
