Karim López signs $18 million contract with Memphis Grizzlies

Mexican forward Karim López, the first player born in Mexico ever selected in the NBA’s first round, has agreed to a four‑year deal with the Memphis Grizzlies worth a total $18,368,804. Of that amount, $7,681,080 is fully guaranteed, giving him an average annual salary of $4,592,201. For his rookie season he will receive $3,746,760, with the final two years (2028‑29 and 2029‑30) remaining team options.

López was taken with the 21st overall pick by the Detroit Pistons in the 2026 draft and was immediately traded to Memphis. The 19‑year‑old previously starred in the NBL’s Next Stars program, posting a record 358 points and becoming the youngest player to record a double‑double at 17. He began his professional career with Spain’s Joventut Badalona and is a member of the Mexican national team.
