Karimunjawa implements TNR program for hundreds of stray cats

A Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program was conducted in Karimunjawa to manage the local stray cat population through sterilization and rabies vaccinations. The initiative, carried out between October 30 and November 1, 2026, successfully treated 229 cats.

The program was organized by Let’s Adopt Indonesia in collaboration with the Karimunjawa District and the Department of Food Security and Agriculture (DKPP). Funding for the sterilization efforts was provided by the French animal protection foundation, Fondation Brigitte Bardot. Local businesses, including Amandalay Hotel and Villas and Ayu Hotel Karimunjawa, provided accommodation, while Pet Ministry Semarang donated dry food and medicine.

By utilizing the TNR method, cats are safely captured, sterilized, vaccinated, and returned to their original habitats once recovered. This approach aims to control population growth humanely while reducing the risk of rabies transmission to humans. The initiative is intended to support sustainable tourism by promoting a cleaner, healthier, and more animal-friendly environment in the Karimunjawa tourist area.
