Karin Prien reports high interest in restructured 'Demokratie leben!' program
German Family Minister Karin Prien expressed satisfaction with the restructuring of the 'Demokratie leben!' (Live Democracy!) funding program, despite facing prior criticism. The program, which has operated since 2014, has an annual volume of approximately 190 million euros.
Prien reported that the program has received over 1,300 expressions of interest. She noted that the new criteria have resulted in a broader range of applicants and a clear focus on digital projects, an area previously underrepresented in extremism prevention and democracy education.
Following a review process by juries starting after September 4th, the ministry aims to distribute funding notices by January 1st.
