Karkonosze GOPR reports increase in summer rescue operations
The Karkonosze GOPR (Mountain Volunteer Search and Rescue Group) reported a significant increase in rescue operations during the recent summer season. The group conducted 191 rescue actions, providing assistance to 266 people. This represents a 13 percent increase in interventions and a 21.5 percent increase in the number of people requiring help compared to the summer of 2025.
The majority of these activities took place in the Karkonosze Mountains, which accounted for 143 operations. Other locations included the Jizera Mountains, Rudawy Janowickie, and the Jelenia Góra Valley. The most frequent cause of intervention was falls, with 25 more such incidents recorded than the previous year. Other common reasons for calls included sudden illnesses and incidents related to hiking, climbing, sports training, and mountain biking.
Rescue statistics indicate that the highest volume of reports occurred on Saturdays, typically between 14:00 and 16:00. Rescuers have noted an increase in incidents involving multiple victims simultaneously. As the autumn season approaches, authorities warn that mountain conditions can change rapidly and advise tourists to check forecasts and prepare appropriate equipment.
