Karl-Anthony Towns addresses weight loss and stalled Knicks extension talks

Karl-Anthony Towns has addressed both his physical transformation and stalled contract negotiations during the New York Knicks' media day. Following a championship season, Towns appeared noticeably slimmer, which he explained is a deliberate offseason routine intended to aid recovery and protect his knees. “In the offseason, I always lose a lot of the weight,” Towns stated, noting that he typically gains weight back during the season.

Simultaneously, negotiations for a contract extension between Towns and the Knicks have reportedly stagnated. While Towns is eligible for a maximum four-year extension worth up to $276 million, reports indicate a significant financial gap exists between the player's expectations and the team's offers. The Knicks are reportedly managing these negotiations with an eye toward staying below the NBA's second apron salary limit. Despite the impasse, Towns expressed his desire to remain in New York, stating, “I made it known I want to play here.”
