Karl-Anthony Towns' father criticizes Jimmy Butler after Knicks NBA title

Following the New York Knicks' victory in the 2026 NBA Finals, Karl Towns Sr. addressed past criticisms directed at his son, Karl-Anthony Towns. The Knicks secured their first championship in 53 years by defeating the San Antonio Spurs 4-1 in the series, winning the decisive Game 5 with a score of 94-90.

Towns Sr. specifically referenced Jimmy Butler, a former teammate of Towns in Minnesota, noting that the negative narratives surrounding his son have been resolved by the championship win. He stated, “It only hurt me as a father to hear people saying stuff that was negative, that wasn’t true, to bring him down. But in the end, it all paid up. Jimmy ain’t got no championship. Karl bypassed him.”

The victory follows a period of uncertainty for Towns, who had previously been linked to potential trade discussions involving Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks. During the postseason, Towns averaged 15.9 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 4.9 assists while shooting 55.1% from the field.
