Karl Bushby nears end of 28-year global walking expedition

British adventurer Karl Bushby is nearing the end of his “Goliath Expedition,” a 28-year journey to walk around the world without using any form of transport other than walking or swimming. Having departed from Punta Arenas, Chile, in 1998, Bushby has traveled over 50,000 kilometers through approximately 30 countries.

To complete his route, Bushby recently swam across the English Channel from France to reach the southern coast of England. The crossing was conducted under the supervision of British and French coast guards. Following his arrival at Dover, he must walk a final 400 kilometers to reach his hometown of Hull.

Throughout the expedition, Bushby faced numerous challenges, including visa denials from Russia, financial crises, and pandemic-related travel restrictions. German filmmaker Werner Herzog is reportedly documenting the conclusion of the journey.
