Karl Hobbs joins Duquesne men’s basketball coaching staff

Duquesne University head men’s basketball coach Dru Joyce III has announced the hiring of Karl Hobbs as an assistant coach for the 2026-27 season. Hobbs is a coaching veteran with nearly 40 years of experience.

Hobbs previously served as an associate head coach at Georgia Tech and Rutgers, where he helped the program achieve back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2021 and 2022. His extensive background also includes a decade-long tenure as head coach at George Washington from 2001 to 2011, during which he earned Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year honors and led the team to multiple postseason appearances.

Additionally, Hobbs has held assistant coaching roles at UConn, where he was part of the staff during the 1998-99 national championship season, and Boston University. He joins the Duquesne staff alongside assistants Rick McFadden, Derrick Allen, Ari Stern, and Chase Goldstein.
