Karl Kwok's Beau Geste Wins Britannia Cup at Cowes Week
Day five of North Sails Cowes Week featured the prestigious Britannia Cup, contested by the largest boats in the regatta. The TP52 class dominated, taking the top four positions overall. Hong Kong‑based skipper Karl Kwok led his TP52, Beau Geste, to victory, securing the Britannia Cup ahead of James Neville’s Ino Veritas, Tony Langley’s Gladiator and Malcolm Offord’s Braveheart.
The race was run in near‑30‑knot winds, with the tide favouring the larger TP52s. Smaller classes, including the White Group, were unable to sail due to the forecast. In the J/70 class, Lady Khumbu, sailed by Jacintha Hamilton‑Love’s team, won the Wednesday race and took a small lead in the overall Cowes Week scorecard. Sir Ben Ainslie also participated, leading a youth crew in his Athena Pathway programme. The event’s schedule predicts lighter winds later in the week, allowing the remaining classes to resume racing.
