Karl T. Kogler, Merano music archivist, dies

Karl T. Kogler, a Viennese‑born violinist and longtime archivist of the Kurorchester Merano, has died. For more than four decades he and his partner Elfriede Hallama managed and digitized the orchestra’s archive, preserving around 7,400 musical works and publishing research on Merano’s cultural history. Their work made the city’s musical heritage accessible to scholars and the public.

The municipal administration of Merano expressed deep sorrow, with Mayor Katharina Zeller noting the loss of a dedicated scholar and promoter of the city’s memory. Condolences were extended to Hallama, Kogler’s family, and all who appreciated his contributions to the cultural life of Merano.
