Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg Wins Court Order for Bunte Cover Correction

Former German defence minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg successfully sued the weekly magazine Bunte after it ran a front‑page story claiming a breakup with his partner Katherina Reiche. The original headline read “Katherina Reiche & Karl‑Theodor zu Guttenberg: Liebes‑Aus! Woran ihre Beziehung jetzt zerbrach”. Bunte later issued a brief denial, but the Landgericht Offenburg ruled that the claim was a factual assertion, not protected opinion, and ordered the magazine to publish a corrective statement on the cover of its next issue.

The court rejected Bunte’s argument that the article was based on a ChatGPT‑generated analysis and held that the publication must explicitly state that the relationship is not broken. The decision obliges Bunte to place the correction on its front page, citing the original false claim as a defamation of fact.
