Karl Wilfing hospitalized after heart attack during cycling tour
Karl Wilfing, the President of the Lower Austrian State Parliament, was hospitalized in intensive care following a medical emergency on Monday. While cycling on the Thayatal cycle path, the 65-year-old politician suffered a heart attack and cardiac arrest.
Emergency services responded quickly, and Wilfing was transported via medical helicopter to the University Hospital St. Pölten. The State Parliament Directorate noted that the rescue chain functioned ‘rapidly and excellently,’ providing essential first aid before the transfer to the hospital.
Political leaders from across the spectrum have expressed their support. Lower Austria Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner issued a statement wishing him strength and a quick recovery, while other officials from the FPÖ and SPÖ also sent well-wishes to Wilfing and his family.
