Karleen Kay Shackelford passes away at 83

Karleen “Kay” Swift Shackelford, 83, passed away on August 8, 2026. A native of Dallas, Texas, she was a dedicated educator who spent 23 years with the Dallas Independent School District. During her career, she served as an English and History teacher before becoming a Vocational Coordinator, where she focused on assisting at-risk students in securing employment and future opportunities.

Shackelford held degrees from Baylor University and Texas Christian University, including a master’s degree in vocational education. A former “Miss Lake Worth,” she was active in her community and church. A graveside service is scheduled for August 22, 2026, at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Fort Worth.
