Karlos Nasar heads to World Championships after health setbacks

Olympic weightlifting champion Karlos Nasar has departed for the World Championships in Ningbo, China, despite facing significant health challenges over the past month. Nasar revealed that his preparation was hindered by a bacterial infection, a viral infection, and a physical injury involving a torn fascia and a ruptured vein. Despite these setbacks, he expressed confidence in his ability to compete at a high level.

Nasar also addressed the recent leadership changes and financial instability within the Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation. He criticized former president Stefan Botev for attempting to declare the federation insolvent, describing the move as a “very ugly act” that threatened athletes' funding and their ability to compete under the Bulgarian flag. Nasar expressed gratitude to the newly elected president, Asen Zlatev, for his leadership during the transition.
