Karlova Studánka swimming event promotes breast cancer prevention
On October 9, a public swimming event took place at the Letní lázně pool in Karlova Studánka to support breast cancer prevention. Organized as part of the ‘Plaveme prsa’ (We Swim for Breasts) project by the Alliance of Women with Breast Cancer, the event saw 32 participants swim a combined total of 10,105 meters. The collective goal of this year's national campaign is to symbolically swim to Santiago de Compostela.
Members of the Onko Amazonky association provided educational demonstrations alongside the physical activity. Using a life-sized silicone model with simulated lumps, they taught participants how to perform proper breast self-examinations. Kateřina Pintérová, president of Onko Amazonky, emphasized the importance of using three fingers flatly and checking surrounding areas, such as the armpits and collarbone regions. She advised that if a lump is discovered, individuals should consult a doctor immediately rather than waiting for a scheduled mammogram.
