Karlovac restores swimming at Foginovo after river pollution cleanup
Swimming has been reinstated at the Foginovo city beach in Karlovac after recent water quality tests confirmed the Korana river is of excellent quality. This follows additional testing requested by the city to ensure that potential pollution from a recent fire had not reached the area.
Meanwhile, the source of pollution in the Mrežnica river at Mala Švarča has been fully remediated. Authorities have removed the floating barriers used to contain the spill, as no new contamination has been detected. Croatian Waters and local utility services are now working to permanently close the storm drain outlet that allowed firefighting water to enter the river during the recent fire.
Regarding the fire site, firefighters have left the scene, but police investigations are pending. Due to the unstable structure of the buildings involved, officials plan to conduct the investigation using a drone on Tuesday to ensure personnel safety.
