Karlovy Vary: Czech spa city features thermal springs and UNESCO heritage

Karlovy Vary, a prominent spa city in western Czechia located at the confluence of the Teplá and Ohře rivers, is recognized for its significant thermal springs and historical architecture. Founded in the 14th century by Charles IV, the city features over 300 mineral water sources, including the Vřídlo geyser, which erupts from a depth of over 2,000 meters.

The city's spa architecture, characterized by neo-Renaissance, Classicism, and Art Nouveau styles, earned its colonnades and springs a place on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2021. Notable cultural and industrial landmarks include the Moser crystal factory, which has supplied royal families for decades, and the production of Becherovka herbal liqueur.

Visitors can explore the city via historic colonnades, cable cars leading to the Diana lookout or Imperial Hotel, and various museums. The region also offers natural attractions such as mini zoos and forest trails.
