Karls Erlebnisdorf Project Faces Traffic and Advertising Dispute in Wernigerode

The planned leisure complex Karls Erlebnisdorf in Wernigerode, Harz, aims to invest roughly €30 million in attractions, gastronomy and a hotel. Local officials are divided over the traffic concept: expert advisors recommend expanding the existing signalised intersection, while council members such as Thomas Storm (BUKO/Haus & Grund) and CDU politician Matthias Winkelmann argue for a roundabout to ensure smoother visitor flow.

A further point of contention is a proposed advertising pylon up to 30 metres high, which several city councillors say could impair views of the Brocken and Wernigerode Castle. The construction committee voted 3‑4‑1 against the current plan, leaving the final decision to the city council on 2 July, which will determine whether the project proceeds as outlined. Founder Robert Dahl said he understands the concerns and is open to reducing the pylon’s size or relocating it closer to the Autobahn.
