Karlsruhe city council approves parking removals and new district name

The Karlsruhe city council is moving forward with several administrative and urban planning changes. One major decision involves the removal of specific parking areas to generate revenue through land sales. This includes the closure of the P+R parking lot at Mühlburger Bahnhof, which was originally established as a temporary solution during Rhine bridge renovations. Additionally, the city intends to sell municipal land located at Hagsfeld station in Neubrunnenstraße and Bruchsaler Straße. This sale is intended to allow DB InfraGo AG to become the full owner of the elevator areas, a necessary step for the company to secure subsidies for planned elevator renewals in 2031.

In a separate cultural and administrative move, the city council has unanimously approved a new official designation for the Durlach district. Durlach will now officially carry the suffix “Historische Markgrafenstadt” (Historical Margraviate City) to honor its history as a political center and former residence of the Margraves of Baden-Durlach. To avoid placing a burden on the city's budget, the approximately 20 new street signs required for this change will not be funded by taxpayer money.
