Karlsruhe main station begins accessibility upgrades
Construction has begun at the Karlsruhe main station forecourt to improve accessibility. The project, costing approximately 500,000 euros, involves the gradual raising of platforms to facilitate easier boarding for tram and light rail passengers.
The first phase focuses on tracks 22 and 23, involving the installation of prefabricated plates to raise platform heights to 34 centimeters. This temporary measure is intended to allow barrier-free access at the first two doors of the vehicles. During this period, trams will operate via outer tracks, temporarily changing stopping positions. Further work on tracks 21 and 24 is planned for the upcoming winter half-year, with platform heights for light rail expected to reach 55 centimeters.
