Karlsruhe maintains bike-sharing system despite budget cuts

The city of Karlsruhe has decided to maintain its bike-sharing system, ‘KVV. nextbike’, despite significant budget cuts. The city council voted to establish a new framework agreement with the Karlsruher Verkehrsverbund (KVV) to secure the service for an additional six years starting in March 2027.

As part of fiscal consolidation efforts, the city's annual subsidy for the system will be drastically reduced from 270,000 euros to 75,000 euros per year. Despite this reduction, the administration has been authorized to proceed with the new contract to ensure that commuters and students can continue to use the flexible transport option.
