Karlsruhe to host largest-ever World Games in 2029

The 2029 World Games in Karlsruhe, Germany, are set to be the largest edition of the event to date. Scheduled to take place from July 19 to July 29, 2029, the games will feature 62 disciplines across 36 sports, according to the International World Games Association (IWGA).

Approximately 4,000 athletes from around 100 countries are expected to participate. The program includes a variety of disciplines such as fistball, rhythmic gymnastics, karate, inline speed skating, tug of war, and finswimming. Martin Wacker, Managing Director of The World Games 2029 Karlsruhe GmbH, stated that the planning focuses on utilizing existing sports facilities, ensuring barrier-free access, short travel distances, and fair ticket pricing.

This marks the second time Karlsruhe will host the World Games, having previously hosted in 1989. The event highlights non-Olympic sports, some of which, like sport climbing, have previously transitioned to the Olympic program.
