Karlsruhe tops German speed‑camera ranking during 2026 Blitzermarathon

A study of 30 German cities during the 2026 "Blitzermarathon" (speed‑week from 3‑9 August) compared traffic‑fine revenue and speed‑camera density. Karlsruhe leads the ranking with the highest fine revenue per vehicle (€128 per car) and the greatest number of stationary cameras (2.6 per 10,000 cars). Hamburg and Berlin generate the largest total revenues but rank lower when adjusted for the vehicle fleet. Potsdam records the highest density of mobile cameras (0.9 per 10,000 cars) and measurement stations (7.7 per 10,000 cars), while Munich and Duisburg sit at the low end.

The speed‑week is part of the European police initiative "Operation Speed" coordinated by the Roadpol network. Police deploy stationary, mobile and trailer‑mounted radar units across most German states. Bavaria and Saarland do not participate. Drivers are warned that speed‑app blockers are ineffective because the locations of radar devices are not disclosed in advance. The programme aims to curb speeding, which accounted for about one‑third of traffic fatalities in 2025.
