Roadpol Speedweek 2026: European police intensify speed checks in Germany
From 3 to 9 August 2026 the European ROADPOL Speedweek will see police forces across more than 20 countries step up speed monitoring. In Germany, state police in Rhineland‑Palatinate, Westpfalz, Baden‑Württemberg and other regions are carrying out intensified checks using stationary speed cameras, mobile radar, laser devices and other equipment. The locations of many controls are kept secret, but the focus is on roads with a high accident risk and on protecting vulnerable users such as cyclists and pedestrians.
The operation aims to raise public awareness of the dangers of excessive speed and to improve overall traffic safety. ADAC traffic‑policy chief Ulrich Chiellino stressed that speed limits must be adapted to the surrounding conditions. In Baden‑Württemberg, the spring Speedweek recorded 14 831 speeders, 147 of whom faced possible driving bans, a figure about 500 lower than the previous year.
A separate Blitzer‑Marathon list highlights five hotspot sites on major holiday routes – A1 near Hamburg, A3 near Wiesbaden, A7 near Guxhagen, A8 near Irschenberg and A61 near Zotzenheim – to help drivers anticipate known control points during the summer travel period.
