Karlsruhe tram upgrades in Durlach set for 2026, 9.9 M € investment

From 17 August 2026 until 23 November 2026, Verkehrsbetriebe Karlsruhe (VBK) will modernise tram infrastructure in the Durlach district of Karlsruhe, Germany. The €9.9 million project includes renewing the “Stachus” track triangle, replacing tracks on Pfinztalstraße and Gymnasiumstraße, and upgrading the Wendeschleife Wolfartsweier on tram line 2.

Parallel works by Stadtwerke Karlsruhe Netzservice GmbH will replace utility lines on several streets. Because sections of tram lines 1 and 2 will be closed, VBK will adjust the tram operation concept and supplement bus services (lines 21‑26, plus 24A and 42A) to maintain connectivity. The changes particularly affect mobility‑restricted passengers, who may need to use alternative routes or arrange a call‑taxi during the construction phases.
