Karlsruhe Youth Committee reviews ICF Karlsruhe recognition

The Karlsruhe Youth Committee faced a decision regarding the recognition of the free church ICF Karlsruhe as a provider of independent youth welfare. The agenda item was removed from the June 19 meeting following an open letter from the research collective FundiWatch.

FundiWatch raised concerns regarding the church's potential impact on the rights of queer youth and sexual self-determination. The collective questioned how the city verifies whether an organization's primary focus is youth welfare rather than the promotion of religious teachings.

Under legal guidelines, recognition as a provider of independent youth welfare grants a preferred status in partnerships with public services, including the right to propose members to the youth welfare committee. Recognition can be denied to organizations that primarily serve to spread religious or ideological views, or those that fail to meet professional and personnel requirements, or those pursuing unconstitutional goals such as the violation of human rights.
