Karlsruhe youth welfare committee rejects ICF recognition

A local youth welfare committee in Karlsruhe has rejected an application from the ICF free church to be recognized as a provider of independent child and youth welfare services. Despite a recommendation from the city administration stating that all formal requirements had been met, the committee voted 17 to 6 against the recognition.

The decision follows a campaign led by the portal ‘FundiWatch’, which opposes what it describes as ‘Christian-fundamentalist ideologies’. The debate has drawn involvement from various political groups, including the Greens, the Left, and the Junge Union, highlighting tensions regarding the role of religious organizations in shaping youth development within the framework of the eighth Social Code.
