Karlstad fatal assault investigation upgraded to manslaughter

A man in his 50s has died following a severe assault outside a restaurant in Karlstad, Sweden. The investigation has been upgraded from aggravated assault to manslaughter after the victim succumbed to his injuries at Örebro University Hospital.

Reports circulating on social media suggest the altercation began after the man intervened to protect his daughter from being harassed by three men. Two men in their 20s have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Karlstad local police chief Ulrika Sundström has issued a plea for the public to remain critical of sources, noting that numerous rumors regarding the identity of the perpetrators and the circumstances of the event are spreading online.
